Deanna, are you planning to use some of the validity suggestions we read about in Chapter 5?
ReplyDeleteDeanna,
ReplyDeletePerhaps I'm just not seeing it, but are there any group activities or discussion between students in the course? It's an online course with relatively newish students (200-level), so they will likely need that learner-learner interaction.
Also, if possible and appropriate, you may be able to measure some of your objectives about editing and applying principles of good writing by having students post and revise each other's work. You might have them use some kind of job aid to facilitate their interactions. It could be a rubric or a worksheet designed by you or them. You could then assess them on their ability to use principles of design/editing in their revision of others' work.
If appropriate, this process might also offload some of the extraneous cognitive load in applying new material. You might get more consistent results as well.
Thanks John for your comments. There are discussions boards for student interaction but other than that, I have not incorporated any other group activities. Also, I like your idea of student's giving advise on revisions, etc. Sometimes I find that when I'm looking at someone's work, I tend to think more about how I approached my own work and mistakes I could have avoided.
