Revised Objectives/Activities/Assessment 06-16-14

Course Objectives:
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will:
1.   Apply qualities of effective messages to all communications media.
2.   Plan and compose written, oral, and electronic communications.
3.   Apply principles of grammar, punctuation, and spelling in all business communications.
4.   Edit business documents effectively using the principle of proofreading, both electronically and manually.
5.   Use a variety of reference materials.
6.   Use appropriate style to cite reference materials.
7.   Use presentation software (PowerPoint) and present on a chosen topic.

    Though I think I know what you're going for on the outcomes, I think a few could be more specific. For example, you write that students will, "7. Use presentation software." Is that really all you're measuring? I suspect that you expect them to something more along the lines of, "successfully present on a chosen topic using a presentation software."

    Also, it is my preference that the ultimate goal of the outcome be stated at the beginning. In #4 you wrote that students will, "Apply principles of proofreading, both electronically and manually, to edit effectively." I would rather see this written something like, "Students will effectively edit documents by applying the principles of proofreading . . ." Ultimately, you are assessing their edits, right?
